  • Re: OCA Repositories in Odoo Apps Store
Frederik, I don't think it would be a good idea to put a price in Odoo Apps Store, due to these reasons:

    - The more important one: Odoo forbids in their conditions to have the module with a lower price (free in this case) available in other places. This was something highlighted by Ivan Yelizariev in Twitter and I think it's still not enforced, but it's a matter of time. He can comment about this if reading this thread.
    - The high 30% cut that we will lose.
    - The maintenance burden we will have, as manifest must be modified for accommodating to extra requirements in paid apps.
    - How to price each module? Same price? Number of lines proportional price with the need of computing this?
    - The support that must be done in those modules. Not sure, but I think there's certain obligations in paid apps.
    - The possible complaints of module authors about money getting to Odoo and OCA, but not them.

I see OK to modify the README template for adding the link to OCA Apps as a minimal action for now, but don't have the silver bullet for the general problem.

    Regards.

If I got correctly, vision of some participants is that majority of OCA contributors / module authors would be happy to drop almost-free (except the maintenance part) marketing channel of Odoo Apps Store which I doubt is the case. Even if some modules are blacklisted or fail to publish, having something there is better than having nothing.

    Hi Joe,

yes, these are all very valid points. I didn't like the whole
app store concept from the beginning but its in the interest of
Odoo S.A. to control the customer base and the money flow. It we want
to continue using the plattform as means to spread the OCA as "the"
real community behind Odoo, we probably have to play the game to a
certain degree. Otherwise Odoo will continue to build and "control" an
    own non-idependent community.

To me that would finally be the end of all Open Source in Odoo.
Ultimate control and power to exclude is something you strive for if
you would like to maximize producer surplus and probably most valuable
with regard to S.A. overall economic strategy but it is against the
values and core essence of Open Source that strives to at least better
balance producer and consumer surplus (i.e. reaching real market
    efficiency)

  • Re: OCA Repositories in Odoo Apps Store
    Hi Joe,

yes, these are all very valid points.

Ultimate control and power to exclude is something you strive for if
you would like to maximize producer surplus and probably most valuable
with regard to S.A. overall economic strategy but it is against the
values and core essence of Open Source that strives to at least better
balance producer and consumer surplus (i.e. reaching real market
    efficiency)

    +1
Possible approach, in particular to get funds into the OCA

    Questions remaining:

    1. odoo s.a. gets the money first and keeps 30% commission, as you might know

    2. the reporting of s.a. (was or is) "lousy".
We had to chase after our sales for 1,5 years. Proven case were never reported and just turned up by accident (People were asking about support with us, and therefore the tracing was possible)
I think our story is well known.

    3. OCA modules still available for free in the OCA app store?

    In contrast:
If OCA is off the app store, will people not have the issue to know about OCA even more? Is OCA strong enough?
See our contribution about marketing and "OCA as a brand " @ OCAdays 2019

That is a pitty but i am afraid that will -if it will- change only when

I do definitely agree with Pedro. Most of what you can "buy" on the

There is only one measure i could think of to play the game. The OCA as
collective code owner may "sell" their modules in the official app
store as well and use the money to do the marketing to get listet there
(i.e. maintaining the html pages) and a surplose to fund code sprint
whereas the very same modules can be downloaded "free" in the OCA
    store.

The effect is. People that just don't care (i.e. mostly freeriders
anyway) will pay a fee that helps the OCA to do the "artwork" and
"sustain". Informed people use the OCA app store.

An important downside of it all is, that S.A. earns commission with
that (but hey who cares if freeriders pay part of the price as
    commission)

And don't get me wrong its just an idea how to handle the strategy of
Odoo that might not be well perceived by a majority of contributors and
therefore not applicable. In that regard i'd be interested in the take
of long term heavy contributors (like Pedro) what thay think about this
    strategy?

    Hello,

I have a problem with the mailing list. I stopped receiving messages from "connectors" list even if I'm regularly subscribed.
Who can help me with this?

    Thank you in advance

    Hi,

I thought what you guessed @dreis@opensourceintegrators.com about "blacklist" with others addons ;-)

We might prefer use https://odoo-community.org/shop from OCA or https://www.odoo-code-search.com/ from initOS even if publishing on Odoo Appstore meets certainly different needs.

Bruno, you are right, the App store is not very reliable for OCA modules.
Still, it is important to have OCA modules there as much as possible. That brings visibility to the OCA itself and to our contributors.

I believe the tracking_mailgun is now listed.
The debrand is not, but is in the same repos, so I guess it was blacklisted.

I don't know how Odoo Appstore works really for contributors who want to show their modules.

If it can helps anyone, for example, from the OCA repo (for this example https://github.com/OCA/social)

For me and daily internal use, I prefer to search on https://www.odoo-code-search.com/ for example

    My 2 cents ;-)

    Hello,

I'll do a round of checks but we have soooo many repos and modules that is very hard to get the full picture of their status at glance.

@Fekete: do you have a list of modules/repo/branch you specifically detected?

AFAIK this can be due to a bunch of reasons: branch not registered, scan of repo failed.

The 1st reason depends on the fact that the process is still manual and Odoo does not ease this process at all.
There's a WIP proof of concept here to try to automate the process.
If anyone wants to help Alexey with it, I'm sure it will be appreciated ;)

The 2nd may depend on errors when parsing some files (eg: rst docs).

Meanwhile, if you notice a module or a repo is missing, please let us know.

    Cheers,
    S.
