Hello,The message was sent earlier but we got an issue with emails connexion and Odoo (what a surprise!), so it came later. In the meantime, we received enough feedback and don't need more "what about this new idea?" :)Enjoy the weekend!Le ven. 7 févr. 2025 à 16:18, Houssine BAKKALI <notifications@odoo-community.org> a écrit :Hi Denis,

Re: [37226] Imap Sent Mails
Hi Michael,
thank you. That is a pretty good summary of the technical options to solve the "sent mail / IMAP" problem. I consider the "Odoo Module" option 3) the best because. Basically that is also what Sergio proposed in his old 8.0 PR just some minutes ago. However, all in all this is just one of the problems using Odoo for E-Mail.
Best and have a nice weekend

Hi Frederik,
Indeed, Odoo’s mail sending mechanism does not support IMAP's "Append" command, which is typically used to store outgoing messages in an IMAP folder.Odoo does not store sent emails in an IMAP folder by default because it acts as an SMTP sender, not a full-fledged email client.
Odoo's Sent Emails Exist Only in the technical Mail Queue (Backend):- Odoo logs sent emails in its internal database (
mail.mailmodel). - These emails can be viewed within Odoo under Messaging > Emails or inside records like Sales Orders, Invoices, and Support Tickets.
- However, these emails are not stored in an external IMAP mail folder.
No Configurable IMAP Folder for Sent Emails:
- Traditional email clients (e.g., Thunderbird, Outlook) allow users to specify an IMAP folder where sent emails should be saved.
- Odoo does not provide an option to configure an external IMAP folder for storing sent messages.
WORKAROUNDsSince Odoo does not natively store sent mail in IMAP, we can consider these alternatives:-
Use an SMTP Server That Automatically Copies Sent Mail to IMAP ("Sent" Folder)
- Some SMTP providers (e.g., Gmail, Office 365) automatically store a copy of outgoing emails in the "Sent" folder when sending via SMTP.
- If using Postfix, you can configure it to BCC outgoing emails to an IMAP mailbox.
Postfix Example (Adding BCC for Sent Emails):
sudo nano /etc/postfix/main.cf
Add: sender_bcc_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/bcc_mapCreate the BCC mapping file:
sudo nano /etc/postfix/bcc_map
Add: @yourdomain.com archive@yourdomain.comApply changes:
sudo postmap /etc/postfix/bcc_map
sudo systemctl restart postfix -
Use Odoo's "Aliases" Feature to Auto-Forward Sent Emails to an IMAP Folder
- You can create an email alias in Odoo to automatically forward sent emails to a dedicated IMAP folder.
- This workaround requires configuring mail forwarding on the SMTP server.
-
Custom Odoo Module to Append Emails to IMAP "Sent" Folder
- A custom Odoo module could be developed to use IMAP's APPEND command to store outgoing messages in a specified folder.
Test the above workarounds and share the knowledge.
Let me know if you, or somebody else, like to receive the workaround for Microsoft Exchange example.

Re: [37226] Imap Sent Mails
Hi Frederik,
ok, I better understand now. Just recently I sent an email campaign and noticed that it triggered responses (direct and indirect) to all sorts of models. So that nothing was missed, I went to technical settings > Discuss > Messages where I grouped by model and author, and browsed.
During this process, I found a couple of missed important messages from a month ago. This seems to better relate to your point.
It was a clumsy experience and could quite easily be served with a better view.
Best wishes,
Stuart.

What i kind of dislike, is that even if you are able to "link" every mail to the chatter of practically every object in Odoo you don't really have a streamline view anywhere that allows you to see what mail came in or was sent out by or to a certain contact. Apart from that, i like to use inline quote in my mail threads and that is also something that just doesn't work very well even if you take the appropopriate OCA module. Of course copying and piping thinks with low level infrastructure means inside Linux / the Mailstack is an option but that way it becomes a pretty fragile architecture after all.
All in all i always wonder if i am the only Person in the Odoo Community that isn't especially thrilled by the way Odoo handles E-Mail or do people just don't talk too much about it ?
Thanks a lot for your helpful comments, anyway
Cheers Frederik

Dear Frederik,
I find the easiest way to set up email for Odoo is to create a subdomain for Odoo emails using a catch-all or aliases, separate from the chat emails of the people using mail clients.
However if you want to have messages stored in an IMAP store, and depending on your familiarity with Linux, you could use various tools to forward or duplicate copies at transmission time. Such messages could then be delivered to IMAP boxes through pipemail, procmail, exim etc - a mail client can subscribe to the box and access the messages.
The recipe would vary depending on exactly what you wanted to achieve, and bear in mind that outbound and inbound have separate life-cycles.
Best wishes,
Stuart.

Re: [37226] Imap Sent Mails
Best wishes,
Stuart.

Buy in one UOM and sell many UOM
Hello: My customer buys beverages (for example Whisky) in 0,70 cl bottles, and sale in 3 different measures, for example short, medium and large, with 3 different prices. Of course I have defined this 4 UOM in Odoo, bottles (0,7 L) and short (/20), medium (/12) and large (/7). They want to control stock, as they know how many measures of each kind there is in a bottle. If I setup 3 different products with 3 different sale UOM I must make 3 different inputs in warehouse for each product. If I setup variants, I can have 3 different prices, but when I sell, Odoo reduce the stock by the sale UOM in the product, I can´t have a different UOM in each variant. What can I do to have 3 different sale prices, only 1 buy product, and control stock at the same time? Thanks in advance. Enrique J. Sánchez Martínez. Proinfo.

Is it to list the emails sent from Odoo in my name in the outbox of my Outlook? Not a common need in my past organizations. But then, we would avoid ever having a system send mail on a person's behalf.Maybe I still did not understand? On Thu, Feb 6, 2025 at 5:53 AM Frederik Kramer <notifications@odoo-community.org> wrote:Dear OCA, talking to a lead about Sales and Distribution, we again (as many times in the past) again came across Odoos somewhat weired way to reinterpret / resuse traditional E-Mail flows (what we all know, use, and are familiar with by using Imap-Servers / Exchange and some form of E-Mail clients (Outlook / Thunderbird). Re: Connecting weight scales to Odoo
Hi Tom,
indeed that is something that is a somewhat ridiclous result of European Regulation. I do agree though:
As long as you break Media, in the sence of
analog -> digital -> paper <-> scan -> digital
the weighing would no longer be conceived "integrated" and the entire thing would be legally compilant.
From a technical standpoint this is odd because
1.) obviously the API of a scale could easily be made "read only", controlled by the internal architecture and thererfore practically immutable
2.) printing something on paper (only to scan it immediatly after) is a waste of natural resources
But lawyer, politicans and other "high profile" staff needs something to work on and live from as well ;-)
Cheers Frederik

Note that there is also the option to use self-service weighing which prints out a barcode sticker, which can then be scanned at the checkout using standard Odoo barcode nomenclature.

This is not the right place to ask that question - you should open a support ticket with Odoo SA. [37226] Imap Sent Mails
Dear OCA, talking to a lead about Sales and Distribution, we again (as many times in the past) again came across Odoos somewhat weired way to reinterpret / resuse traditional E-Mail flows (what we all know, use, and are familiar with by using Imap-Servers / Exchange and some form of E-Mail clients (Outlook / Thunderbird). One of the weird things (among many) is that Odoo (apart from the technical sent mail queue) doesn't make us of the features (store sent mail in an IMAP Folder) as it sents Mail through SMTP but not implements the traditional functionality of an E-Mail client to allow storing such mail in an configurable Imap Folder. By searching a solution for that i came across a 3rd party module https://apps.odoo.com/apps/modules/14.0/base_store_sent_emails I thought to myself that we are certainly not the only ones who have this issue. So my question is. Is it really such an exotic feature that nobody in the OCA ever even ideated on such a functionality or is it worthless (i am simply to conservative to change my mind). Or even better does some publicly available concept, module, code exist that i am just not aware of ? Any thoughts, ideas on that Best and thanks for any reply upfront Frederik -- Dr.-Ing.
