I don't see how this can be a discussion. Releasing new software that pretty 
much by necessity is internet accessible built on a deprecated library that 
hasn't received updates for 5 years simply is grossly negligent.

Especially if there's a maintained version readily available and it would just 
take a bit of effort to adopt the existing code to that.
