Re: Newbe on Odoo
Follow Up
It is not looking good for pursuing many upgrades from V8 Odoo CE (at least as a full stack ERP) based upon this

Exploring an upgrade I will explore OCA drop-in alternatives to CE 12 (which had been my planned next Gen)
Reading the taro, it would appear that V10 CE still had accounting and might be "the end of the road". The indication there is that some accounting features are in the Invoicing Module from V11 on.
It is remarkable how QuickBooks owns the small business accounting space. It always seemed that Odoo could provide a functional alternative.
It's a "brave new world" in so many ways.
Happy to connect directly on these subject Harold, thought tbh I am learning as much as you are. Avid Odoo 8 user though.

So, from what I read there, Odoo Community is "not" a good Accounting Package. That quickbooks is better even. Dissappointing.
I think the question posed by Harold was about "building an Online Shop". I am curious as to whether Odoo community version (later than v 8) is recomended for such.
Probably not the place for discussions like this, but honestly, the statement about current Odoo CE not being recomended for "serious accounting" and moreover the "stripping away of modules" that seems to be happening begs to question the platform's trajectory.
I am about to start down the path of upgrading from Odoo V8 and will be looking at these subjects. Like Harold I also used V6 and V7 OpenERP prior. I have been "generally" happy with v8 (not the Web-Store I must say). I have some foreboding about using Odoo Upgrade but need to give it a spin.
Best to all on this list. I commend all of your hard work!

Accounting is complicated. I assume you are not very familiar with accounting in general, and odoo accounting in particular - Do yourself a favor:
- Get a fully supported accounting package e.g: quickbook OR Odoo enterprise
- Or outsource your accounting, and so you can use odoo community with the invoicing module, and send the invoices to your accountant
In all cases, you cannot escape paying something.
- Either you pay a competent odoo partner to install the custom Apps to bring accounting to odoo community.
- Or you pay an outsource accountant,
- Or you pay odoo enterpirse, and can use their training video, and can send them specific questions.
As of now, you can use odoo 12 community for accounting, if you add extra modules.
Cheers,

Hello everyone,I consider myself Odoo fan, I know this software since version 6 named OpenERP, yes!! Mu play is start and eventual in the future migrate to a better latest version. So I'm looking at some of your opinions regarding this, witch one you consider will be the best option for me to start. I can see that version 10 has most of the functionality just before things started to go south, one of the modules that I consider very important is the account module, after ver 10 the module is not there or limited.I really appreciate all your comments and goods advises.Regards,----
