Inquiry on Connecting Odoo.sh with Power BI for Odoo v15, v16 and v17

Dear OCA Team,

We are currently exploring possibilities to connect Odoo.sh with Power BI for odoo versions v15, v16 and v17. I would appreciate it if you could provide insights into the available options and any recommendations for achieving this integration.

Your assistance in this matter is highly valuable. Thank you in advance for your support.

Thanks and Regards,

    Hi,

we are using the ssh tunnel into odoo.sh to download and restore the latest backup located at /backup.daily/*_daily.sql.gz into another Azure Postgres database once a day.
The restore script also creates a readonly user on the odoo database so PowerBI can connect to this Azure Postgres database.

Of course the data is always from yesterday, and when you run the database restore from your odoo.sh instance, it should not take longer than 15 minutes because the ssh connection is terminated after a while.
You also need to ensure that all connections are closed on your target database when restoring the backup.

    Best regards,
    Christopher

    Hi Mitesh,

I might be missing something here but in the case of odoo.sh I think you have 2 or 3 options:

    1) Use an ssh tunnel to give access to postgresql (not sure if PowerBI supports this). Also I don't think you can create a new read-only user for this purpose.
    2) Use a tunnel at the http layer (HTTP Tunneling ). I've never attempted this so I have no idea if it works.
    3) Use the new dedicated odoo.sh instance which provides this feature by default https://www.odoo.sh/faq?q=postgresql#postgresql

These are the only approaches I know of. Would be excited to learn of others if there are any.

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi Everyone,

Anyhow the postgresql database is not supposed to be directly used, because it will ignore all information and structure provided by the ORM. So xml-rpc or json-rpc would be the interface to use for connecting to Odoo data. This is also fully supported by odoo.sh/

    Kind regards, Ronald

I don't recommend it for various reasons, but it exists, and works. I don't know how it works, because the code is obfuscated.

    Hi Tom

That being said "the code ist obfuscated" is already enough not to feed such a modul with credentials to the database. I wouldn't need an argument other than this to avoid using it ;-)
